Our beautiful home-from-home setting provides excellent childcare in Seer Green, Beaconsfield.
Little Ducklings was founded in 2019 by two experienced local childminders dedicated to providing high-quality childcare for young children. As the setting grew, an afterschool club and a small nursery were introduced to support children’s development in a safe, nurturing, and homely environment.
Fun and active sports sessions designed for young children.
The aim of Playball is to introduce young children to constructive and enjoyable sport participation through various age-appropriate programmes.
Playball focuses on laying the basic foundations of movement, in order to enable your child to accomplish more challenging sport related skills, as they get older. Young children are still discovering the wonderful things that their bodies can do, and benefit from lots of practice in basic skills through fun but structured sessions.
Fun outdoor sessions that encourage children to explore and learn from nature.
Melanie from Forest Tribe Friends joins us on Tuesday mornings to discover more about the outdoors. These sessions are based on ‘small achievable tasks’, allowing the children to explore nature, encouraging development of self esteem, team work and problem solving.
We identify trees and plants in our environment, looking for the changes in the seasons. Our aim is to show them how to respect the environment, as well as keeping themselves and their friends safe whilst enjoying outside play.
Calming yoga sessions that support children’s physical and emotional wellbeing.
Starting yoga at a young age encourages children to build awareness and confidence within their bodies whilst developing their strength, flexibility, balance and coordination. Alongside the physical benefits, yoga also calms the mind, encourages children to learn to relax and allows creativity by exploring postures through games, adventures and storytelling.
Fun cooking sessions where children learn simple and valuable life skills.
Learning the basic skill of cooking, that can be used for the rest of your child’s life, is perhaps the most obvious skill gained. By starting the cooking lessons at a young age, it becomes a skill that they are well adapted to by adulthood.
Stirring, measuring, rolling, squeezing and spreading are just a few of the kitchen tasks that allow young children to develop their fine motor and hand-eye coordination skills.
We have the added benefit of our allotment to grow our own fruits and vegetables and then add these to our recipes.
Hands-on gardening sessions where children grow and care for plants.
We visit our allotment frequently where we grow our own fruits, vegetables and plants throughout the year. We then pick them to use in our snacks and our cooking classes. This not only gives children a sense of pride and achievement by watching their plants grow, it also promotes responsibility and understanding by caring for the plants and about cause and effect, e.g. plants need water to live.
Keeping our allotment engages us with the local community as we share produce. Some of the allotment members keep chickens and our children love visiting and feeding them. It also teaches our children about caring for the environment and growing your own food will reduce carbon footprint.
Active outdoor sessions where children develop physical skills and explore their environment.
Our outdoor secure garden is carefully prepared and planned to ensure all children take part in a wide range of stimulating activities such as climbing, riding and balancing. They will also practise key skills such as navigating uneven surfaces, running safely on their whole foot, throwing and kicking balls and even using tools and materials for a purpose, all part of the statutory framework.
The use of the large playing field is the perfect place to practice those skills on a larger scale and we encourage our children from a young age to take a keen interest in the environment and we love taking trips to our local village whether it be to the church or to visit the horses in surrounding fields.
Here at Little Ducklings the children’s learning and development is our priority. Please see below for some detail on what this involves, how we implement it and how it shows through the children’s learning.
Here at Little Ducklings, the environment is carefully prepared, and our curriculum offers a wide variety of rich experiences.
We believe children learn best when they are interested, curious and engaged. This is best achieved through play.
Our approach is committed to child-led learning. We see the children as competent, independent learners who can take a lead on their own learning. The staff are there to support the children by observing, supporting and extending their learning experiences.
We believe the right mix of child undisrupted play and adult-led learning ensures the best outcomes for all children.
It is our intent that all children develop verbally, physically, emotionally and cognitively which values all cultures, communities and people.
Things that are also key to our curriculum is the warm and positive relationships between the staff and children, consistent routine and strong parent partnerships.
We prioritise creating a language rich environment using songs, nursery rhymes, books both factual and fiction and floor books. We also provide a lot of time for quality interactions between adults and between peers.
We understand the importance of parental engagement and we work hard to create strong partnerships between home and nursery.
Parents use the EYlog system to engage in their child’s learning and they are encouraged to share home learning via this system. This is also used as a form of communication
As part of the learning and teaching process, children are assessed in relation to their progress towards the check points in the development matters. These judgements are made on the knowledge of the practitioner by there ongoing observations. These ongoing assessments are used to plan the next steps of learning for the child, and this is then used to prepare/plan the environment/ activities to meet the needs of that child.

Curiosity approach and Montessori teaching
Our curriculum and its delivery ensure that children make excellent progress toward their age-related expectations both academically and socially. Having this broad curriculum ensures each child’s needs are being met. It will also ignite children’s curiosity and enthusiasm for learning and for building their capacity to learn, form relationships and thrive not only in their early years but for life.
